Genevieve D. (Miller) Kessel, 97, of Burke, VA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Burke Health and Rehab Center. Born on September 26, 1915 in Garrett County, near Gorman, MD, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Bessie (Pope) Miller. She retired from the United States Postal Service in July 1974, as Postmaster of the Gormania, WV Post Office after 32 years of service. After her retirement, she lived in Oakland, MD, Pensacola, FL, Newport News, VA and Burke, VA. She was an active member of the Gormania Methodist Church for many years, playing the piano during church services, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and sponsoring Methodist Youth Activities. She is survived by her daughter, Jenny Lynn (Kessel) Gale and husband Paul of Burke, VA; her son, Lowell William "Bill" Kessel and wife Annette of Milton, FL; four grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Harvey and brother-in-law, Roy W. Harvey. A funeral service will be held at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland at 2 pm on Monday, June 3, 2013 with Pastor Matthew Paugh officiating. Interment will follow in Pope Cemetery, Alt House Hill Rd., Gorman, MD.
