Gene Chadderton Helbig, 83, of Mt. Lake Park died Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home of Oakland, MD.
Born September 19, 1928 in Oakland, MD. He was the son of the late J. Edward and the late Pauline (Chadderton) Helbig. He was also preceded in death by his brother Jack Edwards Helbig.
Gene was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy. He had worked as an oiler on a drag line for Buffalo Coal Company and was a life-time member of the VFW Post 10077, Deer Park and the American Legion, Proctor Kildow Post #71, Oakland.
Surviving are: wife- Barbara (Friend) Helbig; one son- Charles Helbig & wife, Susan of Oakland, MD; five grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. 2nd St, Oakland, MD, Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with the funeral service immediately following in the funeral home chapel.
At Gene's request his body will be cremated after service and interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
