Gary Turney

Gary Turney, 66, of Mt. Lake Park died on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at his home. Born on June 30, 1946 in Clarksburg , WV, he was the son of the late Joseph and Jeannette (Hacker) Turney. He was a teacher in the Garrett County schools for 38 years and had taught at Loch Lynn, Friendsville and Southern Middle Schools. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church having taught Sunday school for 30 years, served as a lay speaker, a member of the MYF and had been an usher since the age of sixteen. Gary enjoyed reading, listening to all types of music and traveling. He was a very special person who would help anyone in need. Gary was loved by all who knew him and he will be missed by all. He is survived by his sister, Sharon Turney; a sister-in-law, Rose Turney; and several cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Judith Kay Turney and a brother, David Michael Turney. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, March 6th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the Bethel United Methodist Church, Mt. Lake Park, on Thursday, March 7th at 11 AM with Rev. Bobby Holcomb and Pastor Wally Weeks officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church, 701 Baltimore Ave., Mt. Lake Park, MD 21550 or the Ruth Enlow Library, 6 N 2nd St., Oakland, MD 21550.
