Galen Everett Beckman, Sr., 82, of Mtn. Lake Park died on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland. Born on July 15, 1933 in Oakland, he was the son of the late John Henry and Dorothy Etta (Johnson) Beckman. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He made his living as a plumber, having worked for Shirers's Tin Shop for 44 years and then worked for himself, helping others with their plumbing, electrical and heating needs until just recently. In his younger years, he had also helped Dr. Custer with his veterinary business. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post #17 and the Deer Park VFW Post # 10077. In addition to spending time with his family, he loved vegetable gardening. He is survived by his loving wife, Velma Mae (Lewis) Beckman; four children, Galen Beckman, Jr. of Mtn. Lake Park, Gary Beckman of Mt. Lake Park, Lisa Beckman of Crellin and Jay Beckman of Oakland; six grandchildren, Gary Allen Herman of Georgia, Keyla Beckman, Kylie Beckman, Josh Beckman and wife Nicole, Randi Beckman and Stephen Beckman, all of Oakland; six great grandchildren, Dakota Beckman, Shelby Beckman, Ashton O'Brien, Aubrey O'Brien, Aron O'Brien and Gage Beckman; a sister, Janet Spessart and husband Carl of Montrose, WV; his best friend, Don Ahern and wife Donna; and his beloved dog, Ladybug. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dottie Friend. According to his wishes, Mr. Beckman was cremated and his family will hold a memorial service at a later time. The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements.
