Pastor Gail K. Hixon

Rev. Gail K. Hixon, 83 of Oakland, MD went to his eternal home on Saturday, August 14, 2010.

Born January 24, 1927 in Hancock, MD he was the son of the late Elmer Truax and Mary Rebecah Hixon of Hancock. Also preceding him in death were brothers, Walter D. of Glen Burnie, MD and Davis R. of Hancock; sisters, Evelyn Hixon of Hancock, Lois Wolford of Hagerstown, MD and Ruth Bivens of Huntingtown, MD.

Pastor Hixon graduated from Hancock High School; he later graduated from Eastern Bible Institute near Philadelphia, PA (now called Valley Forge Christian College). He pastored churches in Princeton, KY, Harpers Ferry, WV, Deer Park, MD, Glendale Church in Swanton, MD, Rocky Drean Church in Oakland, MD and Hiway Church near Kitzmiller, MD. On June 3, 2010 he received recognition for fifty years of Ordained Ministry with the Assemblies of God. On the side, he enjoyed doing artistic rock work on homes, signs, walk-ways, fireplaces, etc...

Surviving are his wife, Irene (Berkey) Hixon of Oakland; sons Galen D. Hixon of Cleveland, TN, Darl J. Hixon of Long Island, NY and daughter Nancy E. Crockett of Sparta, TN; five grandchildren, Rachel (Hixon) Schindler, Joshua Hixon, Caleb Hixon, Justin Crockett and Matthew Crockett; brothers, Elmer T. Hixon of Cumberland, MD, Joseph D. Hixon of Chambersburg, PA, Lowell T. Hixon of Hancock, MD and Wayne H. Hixon; sisters, Mary Ellen Bohrer of Hagerstown, MD, Nancy E. Ayers of Montgomery, TX; numerous nephews, nieces and many friends.

Friends will be received at the Mt. Top Assembly of God Church on Maryland Highway (Rt 135), Oakland, MD for viewing on Monday, August 16, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Mt. Top Assembly of God Church with Pastors William Skipper and John Friend officiating. Following this, a second viewing will be held at the Catalpa Methodist Church in Hancock, MD at 3:00 p.m. followed by interment in the Catalpa Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, you may give honor to Pastor Hixon by way of monetary gifts to Hospice of Garrett County, P.O. Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
