Fred Glaze, 81, of Oakland, Maryland, peacefully passed away on February 28, 2025, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on March 28, 1943, in Oakland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Franklin Carlton and Maybelle Elizabeth (Cummings) Glaze. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan (Kasprzak) Glaze, and a sister, Dottie Bowman.
Fred was a 1961 graduate of Southern High School. He had many different employers over his life time, working at Miller's Market, Bausch and Lomb, and Youghiogheny Electric. He then delivered parts for Mettiki Coal's warehouse, where he gained the nick name "Fast Fred". He also delivered for Surburban Propane, and Green Acres until his retirement.
In 1970, Fred was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He served the Oakland, Maryland, congregation as a Ministerial Servant and an Elder. In 2009, Fred and Sue had the privilege of attending the International Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses in Honolulu, Hawaii.
In his spare time, he built, flew, and crashed model airplanes. One of his models, a Pitt Special biplane with Miss Piggy as pilot, is on display at Garrett County's airport.
Fred's memorial service will be held at the Oakland, Maryland, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Sunday, March 9th, at 2:00 PM. A covered dish meal in celebration of his life will be held at Pleasant Valley Community Center immediately afterwards.
