Frederick Collins, Jr., 67, of Oakland died on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on October 9, 1954, in Oakland, he was the son of the late John Frederick and Dorothy (Nair) Collins.
Fred was a 1974 graduate of Southern High School. He had worked for Manor Home, Ben Shaffer Plumbing and was the co-owner of JG's Pub. He served 21 years with the Deer Park Community Volunteer Fire Department, Company 20, as a line officer for 8 years and 12 years as Chief. He was also a Life Member of the Deer Park Sportsman Club, a member of the Proctor Kildow American Legion Post #71 Sons of the American Legion, and a member of the Elks, Oakland Lodge #2481. He was honored as Elk of the Year for 2020.
Fred is survived by his wife, Kathryn "Kate" Collins; sons, Mark Andrew Collins of Swanton, John Thomas Collins, USMC, and wife Alicia of Jacksonville, NC, and Stephen Michael Collins of Deer Park; a daughter, Shayla Renee Collins of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Nevaeh, Liam and Kinsley; a sister, Dorothy E. Gnegy and husband Harold Jr. of Oakland; nephews, Doug Collins, Scott Collins and Jimmy Gnegy; and a niece, Lisa Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John David Collins.
Friends will be received at the Oakland Elks Lodge, 100 Elk St, Oakland, on Monday, June 13, 2022, from 4 to 6 PM. A celebration of Fred's life will be held in the Lodge at 6 PM with Rev. Dr. Matthew Paugh officiating.
