Frances Patterson

Frances Lee Patterson, 87, of Union, WV died on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg, VA. Born on May 8, 1927 in Fairmont, WV, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Fannie (Houston) Patterson. She was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School who went on to earn her B.A. in Art from Fairmont State College and a Master's Degree from West Virginia University. Ms. Patterson made her career as an art teacher for the old Oakland High School and later for Southern High School in Oakland where she touched the lives of many students prior to her retirement after 31 years of service. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Oakland and a dedicated volunteer for the House of Hope, also in Oakland. She is survived by two sisters, Martha Fornal of New Windsor, NY and Marjorie Alley of Beckley, WV; two nieces, Kristina Wickline of Union, WV and Terri Toney of Beckley, WV; five great-nephews, Sam Wickline, Joshua Wickline, Justin Toney, Nick Toney and Zach Toney; two great great nieces, Khloe Wickline and Brynnlea Toney; and one great great nephew, Caleb Toney, whom she adored. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, September 24th from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, September 25th at 10 AM with Pastor Matthew A. Paugh officiating. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the House of Hope, 202 S. 4th St., Oakland, MD 21550.
