Everson Richard "Rich" Sherwood, 86 of Kitzmiller, MD, passed away November 4, 2010 at his residence.
Born October 24, 1924 in Oakmont, WV., he was the son of the late Richard and Clementine (Paugh) Sherwood. Rich was also preceded in death by his wife, Vera (Brady) Sherwood, brother Larry Sherwood and sister, Arlena McRobie.
Rich was retired from the B & O Railroad, was an Army Veteran serving in World War II as a Medical Surgical Tech, life member of the VFW, American Legion, the Elk Garden Church of God and the last surviving member of the 1951 National Mine Rescue Team.
Surviving are: son, Richard Lee "Dick" Sherwood and wife, Rosanne, Maysville, WV; daughter, Deborah F. James, Kitzmiller; brother, William Sherwood, Kitzmiller; sisters, Regina Newlin, Kitzmiller and Helen Berg, Maysville, WV; one grandson, Jamie James and wife Wendy; two great grandchildren, Jadon Lee and Owen Everson James, Elk Garden, WV and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 710 Church Street, Kitzmiller, MD, Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.. The funeral service will be Monday, November 8, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bryon Mayberry officiating. Interment will be in the Kalbaugh Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by local Veterans Organizations.
