Evelyn Steyer

Evelyn Maxine (Custer) Steyer, 83, of Oakland, died on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Born on August 21, 1928 in North Glade, MD, she was the daughter of the late Heyward S. and Effie Belle (Friend) Custer. She was a member White United Methodist Church. Evelyn was a homemaker, avid gardener, baker, and, most recently, she had an interest in drawing. She is survived by three children, Maxine Fay Steyer, Samuel Ray Steyer, Jr. and wife Susan L. (Davis), and Randall Alan Steyer and wife L. Kay (Marple), all of Oakland; four granddaughters, Chrissy and husband Guy Joseph of Oakland, Carrie and husband Joshua Hook of Friendsville, Andrea Steyer, and Jessica Steyer, both of Oakland; five great grandchildren, Dustin Keller, Samantha Rae Keller, Mason Keller, Brycen Hook, and Parker Hook; six brothers, Hubert Custer and wife Mae Lorien (Steyer) of Oakland, Melvin Custer and wife Eileen (Fitzwater) of Swanton, Dale Custer and wife Marie (Bowman) of Oakland, Leo Custer and wife Janet (Marley) of Swanton, Roger Custer of Keyser, WV, Clarence Custer and wife JoAnne (Jenkins) of Oakland; two sisters, Mary and husband Franklin Bishop of Mt. Airy and Shirley and husband Thomas Bernard of Oakland; also numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel Ray Steyer, Sr. in 1996, and one sister, Phyllis Knepp. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, March 27th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held at the White United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 28th at 11 AM with the Rev. Barbara Rexrode and Rev. Harold McMillen, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in White Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the White United Methodist Church or Ryan's Glade Community Building.
