Evelyn George

Evelyn W. George, 78, of McHenry, passed away on March 13, 2025, at Oakland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born on November 29, 1946, in Baltimore, she was the daughter, of the late Joseph Wilbur and Dorothy Ann (Eckman) Butts.

Evelyn worked as a bank teller for over 30 years, but her favorite job was as a veterinary technician in Reisterstown. She loved running through the woods, swimming, dancing, and singing. She enjoyed casino trips with her husband to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Evelyn was an active member of her bowling team, attended Jazzercise classes, volunteered at HART for Animals, and was a devoted member of St. Peter's at the Lake.

She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Brian and Eddie Butts, and Buddy and Karen Thiele, along with several close friends who meant the world to her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick George; two siblings, Joseph W. Butts, Jr., and Dorothy Thiele; and her nephew, Michael Thiele.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to HART for Animals, 1265 Bumble Bee Rd, Accident, MD 21520.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 4 to 6 PM, at the Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Peter at the Lake, 1140 Mosser Road McHenry, MD 21541 on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 10 AM with Fr. Bill Keown as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
