Ethel Snyder

Ethel Rae Snyder, 94, of Oakland passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at her home. Born on February 5, 1918 in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Clara (Little) Welling. She was a 1934 graduate of the Oakland High School, a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years, a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service (now United Methodist Women) and served on the Administrative Board, and was a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Association. She was also a past Worthy Matron of the Oakland Lodge OES #67 Eastern Star, served on the Oakland Town Council's Zoning Appeals Board and was a member of the Southern Garrett Republican Club. She is survived by a son, Richard Welling Snyder, DDS and wife Patricia "Pat" of Salisbury; a daughter, Barbara Beeson Snyder of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Kristy Woldow and husband Scott David of Vienna, VA, Richard "Rick" Snyder of San Diego, CA and Robert "Rob" Snyder and wife Lindsay of Baltimore; great grandchildren, Shane, Kira and Scarlett Rae Woldow of Vienna, VA; a sister-in-law, Eloise Welling of Mt. Lake Park; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, the love of her life B. Beeson Snyder who died on November 14, 1987; sisters, Mary Downey and Virginia Jewell; and brothers, George Welling and Jack Welling. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland, on Thursday, October 4th from 4 to 7 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 5th at 11 AM in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Oakland with Rev. R. Samuel Wachter officiating. Interment will follow in Garrett County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550 or via their website www.hospiceofgarrettcounty.org .
