Ernest Robert "Bob" Shiffy, 73, of Oakland, died on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Born on June 18, 1938 in Kingwood, WV, and later moved to Crellin, MD, he was the son of the late Arthur Robert Shiffy and Lillian Gayle (Ridenour) Jordan. He was a United States Army veteran and worked for Coca Cola, Peters Fuel Corporation from which he retired after twenty-five years of service, Stroehman Brothers Bakery, and the Garrett County Sheriff's Office. He was a member of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post #71 Special Olympics and Honor Guard, Deer Park VFW #10077, Elks Lodge #2481, Oakland Masonic Lodge #192 AF&AM, Ali Ghan Shrine Temple Harige Unit, 40/8 Local #164, Teamsters Local#453, Mt. Top Softball League, Mt. Top Basketball, Old Time Softball League, Par Mat Bowling League, and Woodmen of the World. Bob was protestant by faith and was a member of the New Life Christian Church of Oakland. He loved camping with family and friends, pitching horse shoes, playing cards, the lottery and softball, and going to the grandkids sporting events. He fulfilled his dream of becoming a clown in the Ali Ghan Harige Unit. Bob loved life to the fullest and never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Carol Ann (Schroth) Shiffy; three daughters, Amy J. Roth and husband Willie, Robin J. Baker and husband Joey, and Kristina M. DeWitt and husband Todd; one sister, Ruby Hebb; six grandchildren, Tyler Roth, Tayler Roth, Breanna Baker, Marshall Baker, Dillon DeWitt and Evan DeWitt all of Oakland; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Sisler, Nellie Ford and stepfather, Luther Jordan. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Saturday, May 5th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 6th at 2 PM in the New Life Christian Church, Nestlick Acres Rd., Oakland. A committal service with full military honors will be held at the Garrett County Memorial Gardens chapel immediately following the funeral service. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post #71 of Oakland and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077.
