Ernest Bachtel

Ernest Eugene Bachtel, 92, of Eglon, West Virginia, surrounded by his loving family, went home to be with the Lord on July 25, 2020. He was born May 15, 1928 in Gnegy Church, Maryland, a son to the late Odus Mark and Twila Virginia (Hauser) Bachtel.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years of marriage, Bernadine Adaline Roth, whom he married on August 9, 1948. Also surviving are three sons, William “Bill” Bachtel and wife Dianna, Larry Bachtel and wife Jayne, and Gary Bachtel and wife Denise, three daughters, Brenda Cassidy and husband Jack, Eugenia Cassidy, and Twila Amtower and husband Vernon, one brother Kenneth Bachtel and wife Donna, three sisters, Pauline Best, Juanita Blamble, and JoAnn Gehman and husband Glenn, ten grandchildren, Teresa Bittinger and husband Scott, Shelly Cassidy and fiancé Mike Long, Kelly Junkins and husband Ronnie, Tammy Parsons and husband Leonard, Jason Wood and wife Shawnda, Matthew Bachtel, Amanda Sharp and husband Justin, Ashley Bodkins and husband Josh, McKayla Bachtel, and Willie Bachtel, and twelve great-grandchildren, Stephanie Wilson and husband Jimmy, Daniel and Michael Parsons, Brandon, Natalie, and Quentin Wood, Willie, Alex, and Cassidy Sharp, Abigail Bodkins, John, Lonnie, and Jimmy Junkins, and one great-great-grandchild, Adalynn Wilson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Maison Sharp, one brother, Clifton Bachtel and wife Grace, two brothers-in-law, Ray Best and Charles Blamble, and one sister, Geneva Junkins, and one infant sister, Wanda Bachtel.

Mr. Bachtel worked at Sterling Faucet and as a sawyer for local sawmills before becoming a dairy farmer. In 1957, he and his wife bought their dairy farm in Eglon. His sons and family have carried on his legacy by continuing to work on the dairy farm. He was a loving leader of a large family and was a kind, helpful neighbor. Eugene was a very active member of the Bethel “Texas” United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, wood working, gospel music, and spending time with his loving family.

Private funeral services were held, 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Texas Cemetery, Horse Shoe Run, West Virginia. Condolences may be made to the family at www.hinklefennerfuneralhome.com
