Elwood Sweitzer

Elwood Elmo "Woody" Sweitzer, 71, of Oakland died on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on September 13, 1952, in Parsons, WV, he was the son of the late Elwood E. Sweitzer, Sr. and Zetta Jean (Burns) Sweitzer.

Woody was a graduate of Southern Garrett High School and a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War. He also served in the National Guard for 17 1/2 years. Woody was a truck driver for 40 years and retired from the Garrett County Roads Department. He loved to work on cars and tractors, enjoyed attending car and tractor shows. Most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends, riding four-wheelers, and being with his grandkids. He was a loving husband and father who will be remembered for being a hard worker.

He is survived by his son, Eric Scott Sweitzer; three grandchildren, Jordan, Veronica, and Paige; and a god-daughther, Sarah.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ann "Dottie" (Hauser) Sweitzer.

Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 11 AM with Pastor Mark Weeks officiating.
