Elizabeth M. (Shetler) Petersheim, 89, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 surrounded by her family. Born on August 22, 1930 in Apple Creek, OH, she was the daughter of the late Moses L. Shetler and Mary (Miller) Shetler.
Elizabeth was baptized in her youth upon the confession of her faith. As a faithful member of the Gortner Amish Church, she was a follower of Jesus until she entered her eternal rest.
She was an excellent homemaker, and especially enjoyed serving others. She was known for her hospitality and always welcomed everyone with a seat at the table. An avid gardener and cook, she also found joy in refinishing furniture. She loved her family, serving them unselfishly as long as she was able. She will be greatly missed!
Elizabeth is survived by her children: a son, Paul Neven and wife Naomi (Beachy); a daughter, Irene Ellen Yoder and husband Dan; a son, Edward Lewis and wife Orpha (Beachy), all of Oakland; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Also, surviving are four sisters, Martha Schrock of Oakland, Ada Swartzentruber, Mary Shetler and Ella Shetler, all of Ohio; four brothers, Lewis and wife Marilyn, Levi and wife Amanda, Eli and wife Fannie, Norman and wife Carole, all of Ohio; one sister-in-law, Rachel (Stolzfus) Shetler of VA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Henry Daniel Petersheim whom she married on October 9, 1949; step mother, Barbara (Miller) Shetler; brothers, Uriah and Joni; and infant sister, Emma; sisters-in-law, Anna (Petersheim) Shetler and Anna (Stoltzfus) Shetler; brothers-in-law, Dan E. Swartzentruber and Ernest Schrock.
Family and friends will be received at the Gortner Amish Church, 4391 Mason School Road, Oakland on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 1-3 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the church on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 10 AM with Bishop Alvin Beachy officiating. Interment will follow in the Schlabach Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the community for their support and prayers. They are especially grateful to those who assisted with Elizabeth's care in her later years. Hospice of Garrett County was an invaluable resource in the last several weeks of her life. Thank you to everyone!
