Eleanor Ruth "Elee" Bookout, 81, of Accident died on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at her home. Born on August 7, 1932 in Seattle, WA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Eleanor Fay (Wilson) Hodgson. Elee was a professional potter who studied art education at the University of Maryland, graduating in 1954. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art, focusing on ceramics, in 1957. She taught pottery at the University of Maryland, Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Prince Georges County Schools. Since then, she had been a professional potter selling her work throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Elee and her late husband, Jack, moved to Garrett County in 1989 and she continued making, exhibiting and selling her work until the day she died. She is survived by three daughters, Janice Soussanin and husband Nick, Julie Delaney and husband Owen and Jennifer Woodring and husband, Andy; and seven grandchildren, Nicole and Alex Soussanin, Kevin and Dagen Delaney, and Dylan, Cody and Tyler Woodring. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack E. Bookout, with whom she had been married in 1960; and a sister, Fleur Hodgson. According to her wishes, Elee was cremated and a memorial service will be held in the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 11 AM. Expressions of sympathy may be made with flowers or a donation to the Garrett Arts Council, 206 E. Alder St., Oakland, MD 21550.
