Edith Stemple

August 9, 1916 — March 24, 2010

Edith L. Stemple, 93 of Washington D.C., and formerly of Oakland, MD, died Wednesday March 24, 2010, at the Ingleside Rock Creek Retirement Home in Washington, D.C.

Born August 9, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Ervin and Ada Smith. She was also preceded in death by one brother Ervin Smith Jr.

.Edith was employed and retired as a secretary from the US State Department, Office of Foreign Service. During her time with the State Department, her assignments included: US embassies in Panama, Italy, Germany, Japan, and Peru. During the Berlin Airlift, she served as secretary to the High Commissioner during the allied occupation.

Surviving is one brother Douglas Smith of Vienna, VA., and one sister, Barbara Joan Bowles of Reedsville, VA.

a��The family will receive friends at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home 21 N. Second Street, Oakland on Tuesday from 10:00am until 11:00am. Funeral services are at 11:00am with Reverend Scott Robinson officiating. Internment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
