Earl Lionel "Shorty" Boyce, 83, of Oakland died on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Born on December 23, 1932 in Wilson, Garrett County, Maryland he was the son of the late Forrest Lionel and Freda Eva (Rodeheaver) Boyce. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean War. He worked for C & P Telephone many years prior to retirement and most recently worked for the Garrett County Refuse and Recycling Facility on Garrett Highway. He was a member of the American Legion Post #71 in Oakland, the Deer Park VFW Post 10077, Elks Lodge #2481, the Deer Park Sportsmen's Club and Oakland Masonic Lodge #192 AF&AM. He enjoyed family gatherings and particularly his time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Louella B. (Weimer) Boyce; children, Carolin Martin and husband Jim of Ohio, Dwayne Boyce of Aurora, WV. Mike Boyce of Oakland, William Boyce of Romney, WV, Bonnie Bowers and husband Ron of Swanton, Kim Sines and husband Buck of Friendsville, Diana Wells and husband Mark of Terra Alta, WV and Tonya Helbig and husband Andy of Oakland; stepson, Doug Cryser of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Jonathin Martin, Angie Boyce Lambka, Josh Boyce, Brittany Boyce, Megan Bowers, Amanda Beckman, Brook Rounds, Summer Sines, Jessica Sines, Aaron Wells, Abby Shaffer, Mariah Wells, and Drew, Jacob and Luke Helbig; fourteen great grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Collins and husband Robert of Swanton and Mary of Ocean City; and brothers, Forrest Boyce of Morgantown and Harold Boyce and wife Patricia of Swanton; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Boyce, Alverta Sweitzer and Josephine Shaffer. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Thursday, January 14th from 5 to 8 PM. A funeral service with military honors will be held in the funeral home on Friday, January 15th at 11 AM with Pastor Carl Lee officiating. Private interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
