Douglas Lee Roberson, Sr., 81, of Kitzmiller died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in Darien, GA following a brief illness. Born May 17, 1930 in Dickerson, MD, he was the son of the late Leo and Mary Elizabeth (Hicks) Roberson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Paul; and his wife, Mary Jo (Holland) Roberson in 1980. Doug grew up in rural Montgomery County, MD and lived on a farm. He joined the Navy after high school and served in the Korean War. He worked as an electronics technician at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory while raising his family in Rockville, MD. The family moved to Kitzmiller in 1973 and Doug operated Roberson's Store. In Rockville, he was a member of the Eastern Star and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, both of Montgomery Cornerstone Lodge #195 and a member of AF/AM Rockville. In Kitzmiller, he was a member of the Lion's Club, Volunteer Fire Department and Methodist Church. Since his retirement, Doug enjoyed gardening, nature, reading, and his Redskins. He enjoyed his winters with Helen in Darien, GA and loved visiting with family and friends. Doug was always helping out others with acts of kindness. He tended to have a twinkle in his eye and joking word for anyone he saw. He was a beloved member of his family and communities. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Doug is survived by four children, Susan Jenkins and husband TJ of Windsor Mills, MD, Douglas Roberson, Jr. of Kitzmiller, Nancy Robinson and husband Mike of Oldtown, MD, and Sara Roberson and life partner Natalie Haney of Baltimore, MD; his life partner, Helen Crouse, her brothers, sisters, children and their families; his brothers, Robert Roberson and wife Gay of Frederick and John Roberson and wife Rita of Walkersville; a sister-in-law, Helen Roberson of Rockville; many nieces, nephews and their families; his special friend and cousin, Nip and wife Anita of Ocala, FL; and his best friend, Roger Welch, Sr. and wife Barbara. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 710 Church St., Kitzmiller on Friday, March 16 from 5 to 8 PM and Saturday from 12 to 1 PM at which time a funeral service will be held with the Rev. George A. Tichinel and Rev. Virginia M. Tichinel officiating. Interment will be in Nethken Hill Cemetery, Elk Garden, WV with a reception to follow at the Kitzmiller Volunteer Fire Department.
