Dorothy Winters

Dorothy Joan Gabler Winters (“Dottie Jo” or “Dot”), age 80, of Aurora, WV and De Leon Springs, FL, formerly of Waynesburg, PA, died on March 1, 2018, surrounded by her husband and children. Dot was born in Uniontown, PA on July 15, 1937, to Thomas Herbert Gabler and Ellen Virgin Gabler. She was a graduate of Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, WV. She was an elementary school teacher in the Central Greene School District (Waynesburg, PA) for 30 years and volunteered as a reading buddy in the Aurora, WV elementary school after retirement. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aurora, WV. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James (“Bud”) Winters; daughter Ellen Cobb (and Steve) of Suffolk, VA; son Tim Winters (and Michele) of Franklin, VA; grandchildren Emily Cobb, Tyler Winters, Tanner Winters and Jeremy Cobb; and sisters Sally Ware of Clinton, PA and Sandra Bloodworth of Greenville, NC. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 46 German Settlement Way, Aurora, WV 26705, with Pastor Regina Beard presiding. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, PO Box 108, Aurora, WV 26705.
