Dorothy Lou (Miller) Knotts, age 91, of Kitzmiller, died on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was born January 4, 1930 in Morgantown to Thomas and Clemmie Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Knotts, Sr, and her ten brothers and sisters. As the baby of the family, she was the last surviving member.
Dorothy was a graduate of Kitzmiller High School and a member of Mount Bethel United Methodist Church. She retired from being a cafeteria worker with Garrett County Public Schools. She was known for her meticulous housekeeping and delicious cooking, especially her cookies and breads, which she often shared with family and friends. She was always willing to help others, especially the elderly. She enjoyed spending time with her family, laughing with her brothers and sisters, and visiting with friends. She was an early riser, who was rarely idle, and was never late for an appointment. She leaves behind a legacy of handwritten recipes with lists of ingredients but no instructions.
She is survived by her children, Charles Knotts, Jr. (Lillie) and Kevin Knotts, both of Kitzmiller, Kathy Knotts of Mountain Lake Park, and Leigh Huelskamp (Matthew) of Grantsville, as well as her grandchildren, Charles Knotts, III, Haroula Truffer, Sara Huelskamp, and Laura Huelskamp, and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Garrett County Memorial Gardens on Friday, July 16, 2021, at 2 PM with Pastor Carl Fike officiating.
Dorothy was a volunteer for Hospice. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her name to Hospice of Garrett County, P.O. Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
