Dorothy Cathell

Dorothy Eleanor Cathell, 86, of Oakland, died on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Dennett Road Manor. Born on December 22, 1929 in Swanton, she was the daughter of the late Wade A. and Mary E. (Custer) Bernard. Prior to retirement, she was a Trust Officer with First United Bank & Trust for over 30 years. She was a lifelong member of the Lakeside Assembly of God. Dorothy enjoyed studying genealogy and was an active member of the Garrett County Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Women's Civic Club and Woodmen of the World. She and her husband loved roaming the world and hunting for gems; they also enjoyed collecting antiques, particularly old bottles. Dorothy was also a gifted quilter and gardener. She will be remembered as a vibrant person who greatly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Carl Mitchell Cathell; two sons, Carl M. Cathell, Jr. and wife Kayla A. of Oakland and David W. Cathell and wife Jill of Gardners, PA; grandchildren, Matthew Cathell, Katie Cathell, Brian Cathell and wife Caroline and Daniel Cathell and wife Desiree; great grandchildren, Colton and Lillian Cathell; six siblings, Wilma Bernard of Cumberland, Leroy Bernard and wife Patricia, John Bernard and wife Norma, Mary Harvey and husband Joe and Robert Bernard and wife Joann, all of Oakland and Alvin Bernard and wife Nancy of Swanton; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Skipper. Family and friends will be received at the C & S Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Friday, April 8th from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 11:00 AM in the Lakeside Assembly of God, 18012 Garrett Hwy., Oakland with Pastor Dennis Caton officiating. Interment will be in the Garrett Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made in Dorothy's memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Fl., New York, NY 10001.
