Dorothy Alexander

Dorothy Ruth Alexander, 86, of Aurora, died on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the Garrett Regional Medical Center.  Born on April 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Arlie R. and Viola V. (Calhoun) Shahan.  Dorothy attended Center Street School.  She was an EMT with Union Ambulance Squad and was also the   first lady fireman of Preston County.    She was the last surviving charter member of the Aurora Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post #71 Auxiliary and attended Brookside Church of the Brethren.  In her later years, she enjoyed spending time playing dominoes with her family and going to the casino.  Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Michael E. Alexander and J. Eric Alexander of Aurora; one daughter, Sue Watts and husband Wayne of Aurora; four grandchildren, Bryan Watts and wife Rose of Aurora, Shad Green and wife Nikki of Aurora, Becky Michaels and husband Robby of Oakland, and Trevor Alexander of Aurora; great-grandchildren, Tyler Michaels, Amber Watts, Michaela and Kirsten Green; four siblings, Arlie Shahan of Oakland, John Shahan and wife Jo Ann of Mt. Lake Park, Patty Price and husband George of Deatsville, AL and Charlene Copeland of Oakland.   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dayton E. Alexander; a daughter, Phyllis R. (Green) Williams; a daughter-in-law, Jutta Alexander; and five siblings, Howard and Robert Shahan, Delores Robinson, Thelma Sweitzer and Reatha Sliger.  Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd Street, Oakland on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 10-11 AM at which time a memorial service will be held.  Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery at a later date.  Dorothy's family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Miller and the 3rd floor nursing staff at the Garrett Regional Medical for their care and compassion.  Condolences for the family may be left at www.csfredlockfh.com.
