Doris Jacqueline Twigg Goldsborough, 90, of Mtn. Lake Park, formerly from Cumberland, Maryland, died on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the Dennett Road Nursing Home in Oakland.

Born on October 5, 1927, Mrs. Goldsborough was the daughter of the late Zeta Hasenbuhler Twigg Clay and Arthur James Twigg. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, William Mahon Goldsborough III, in 1988, and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott Tichnell & Brian Bradford Wolfe.

A 1945 graduate of Fort Hill High School, Mrs. Goldsborough completed 1 year’s nursing program at Cumberland Memorial Hospital as a probationer and later received her cap and bib; in addition she took a course in shorthand at Catherman’s Business School in Cumberland. Before relocating to Garrett County, she served as secretary to the District Engineer of the Maryland State Highway Commission in LaVale. Upon moving to Garrett County, she was secretary for her husband in his business, Garrett Engineering & Surveying. He had been Resident Maintenance Engineer in Garrett County for the Maryland State Highway Commission and was a licensed property surveyor.

Mrs. Goldsborough became a member for the Oakland Chapter #67 Eastern Star on December 15, 1964, and had received her 25-year pin; was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Mtn. Lake Park, where she had served actively as President of the United Methodist Women, Chair of Finance Committee, secretary to Administrative Council, and Church historian. She was elected in 1998 to serve a 4-year term on the Garrett County Democratic Central Committee and served as secretary, and had also served with that committee for two prior terms. A member of the Garrett County Democratic Club, she was named a life member in 1990. She also served as secretary for Hospice of Garrett County’s “Dream Come True” program and secretary of the Ethics Board of that organization.

Surviving are her three children, Barbara E. Tichnell and husband George of Ponce Inlet, Florida, Pamela S. Steyer and husband Gary of Oakland, and David W. Goldsborough and wife Elizabeth of Mtn. Lake Park; five grandchildren, Alicia M. Metz, George C. Tichnell Jr., Jason W. Smith, David W. Goldsborough Jr., and William Edwin Goldsborough and wife Nicole; three great-grandchildren, Maria Renee Metz, Brianna Nicole Metz, and Lucas William Metz, all from Mtn. Lake Park; and a brother in law, Oscar R. Goldsborough and wife Mona.

Friends will be received at the C & S FREDLOCK FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Monday, January 1st from 1 to 5 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, January 2nd at 11 AM. Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
