Dora Ernestine Parrish, 70, of Mt. Storm, WV died on Friday, April 3, 2015 at the Winchester Medical Center in Virginia. Born on October 23, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Brophy Willis and Stella Belle (Berg) Hanlin. She was one of the first Emergency Medical Technicians in West Virginia with an initial certification number of 9. She worked with the Mt. Storm Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad from 1975 through 2001. She also served in the fire department auxiliary. Dora was a 4-H Leader and All-Star. She was active in Grant County 4-H for many years, including being a camp counselor at county camps and at state Older Members Conference for many years. She also loved WVU Football and the Pride of West Virginia and was an active member of Calvary Temple Church in Mt. Storm. She was a member of the National Technical Honor Society as she attended South Branch Vocational Technical Center in Business as a post-secondary student, where she excelled winning many awards. She served as a VISTA Volunteer working to help provide affordable housing to families. Dora was also an active 'sports' mom, working with the Mt. Storm Twirlettes which later transformed into the Unionettes, traveling to parades, cutting & sewing uniforms, fund raisers and practices with all of her children for many years. She never missed a basketball game or baseball game and later she traveled the state for three years to support Moorefield Championship Football with her grandson. She also was a member of the Bayard-Union Alumni Association, attending reunions faithfully for years. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Elmer "Lee" Parrish; children, Cheryl George and husband Harold of Aurora, WV, Carroll Parrish and wife Jennifer of Mt. Storm, WV and Carla Boutchyard and husband Mark of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Jessica George, Daniel Gonzalez, Julia Gonzalez, Samuel Parrish, Patrick Hinkle, Curt Kaminski, Nicholas Parrish, Willow Cutter, Sam Leasure and Ella Boutchyard; seven great grandchildren; siblings, Marian Amtower of Mt. Storm, WV, Juanita Hiser and husband Roy of Cincinnati, OH and Eugene Hanlin of Keyser, WV; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert "Robbie" Parrish and a sister, Verda Mayles. Friends will be received at the Calvary Temple, Rt. 50, Mt. Storm, on Wednesday, April 8th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the church on Thursday, April 9th at 1 PM with Pastor Gloria Georg officiating. Interment will be in the Kalbaugh Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the family, c/o Cheryl George, PO Box 77, Aurora, WV 26705.
