Donald Moreland

Donald Lawrence Moreland, 89, of Oakland died on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home. Born on November 19, 1923 in Ryan's Glade, Oakland, he was the son of the late Dorsey Leo and Ina Catherine (Thompson) Moreland. He worked as a dairy farmer and strip mining dozer operator. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and storyteller. He was a member of the Loch Lynn Church of God and witnessed for the Lord during his stay at the nursing home. Donald was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Arletha Glendine (Merrill) Moreland; three sons, Frank Moreland and wife Rose of Oakland, Paul Moreland and wife Brenda of Oakland, and Donald Moreland and wife Elizabeth of Ohio; three daughters, Donna Chungo of Rawlings, Sharon Bernard and husband Tom, III of Oakland, and Shirley Durst and husband Mark of Oakland; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Hall of Illinois and Helen "Peggy" Riley of Waldorf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Moreland, Ernest Moreland, Arthur Moreland, Robert Moreland, Russell Moreland and James Moreland; and sisters, Crema Mahaffey, Beulah Boyle, Juanita Moreland and Mildred Kitzmiller. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Saturday, June 1st from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 2nd in the Loch Lynn Church of God at 2 PM with Pastor Ivan Ackerman and Pastor Robert Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
