Donald Roy "Crock" Kessler, 77, a resident of Oakland, MD since 1999, formerly of Damascus, MD, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 a at Goodwill Nursing Home in Grantsville, MD where he had resided for the last few years, after a long illness with Alzheimer's.
Born June 14, 1932 in Tower City, PA he was the son of the late David and Verna (Schnell) Kessler. He was also preceded in death by his sister Lois Willard.
Mr. Kessler was a graduate of the Williamson Trade School, Class of 1952, in Media, PA. He worked as a brick mason for Shomper & Wells Co. in Bethesda, MD from 1955 to 1967. He was also a Masonry teacher at South Carroll High School in Sykesville, MD for several years, an avid and faithful NASCAR fan, and longtime supporter of the Washington Redskins. He was a CPL in the U.S. Army, Artillery Division, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the National Defense Service Medal.
Surviving are one son, Craig Kessler of Hanover, PA; two daughters, Lisa Baker of Oakland, MD, Jodi Weakland of Wheaton, MD; three grandchildren, Laurel Baker, Sarah Baker and Megan Maro.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Pleasant View Baptist Church, Oakland, MD with Rev. Wally Weeks officiating. The interment of ashes will be at Rocky Gap Veteran's Cemetery in Flintstone, MD on Monday, May 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations, in his name, to the Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades, 106 S. New Middletown Road, Media, PA 19063-5299.
