Dewey Sanders

Dewey Dale Sanders, Sr., 81, of Oakland died on Monday, June 20, 2016, at his home with his family by his side. Born on April 23, 1935 in Freeport, WV, he was the son of the late Russell P. and Mary J. (Bowser) Sanders. He was a coal miner and had worked for Island Creek Coal Company and Consol Energy. He was a member of the UMWA Local 1289, District 31 and was a prominent member of the local car wash coffee drinking club, where he enjoyed many hours spent with good friends. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Dewey enjoyed wood working, fishing, hunting, and snow mobile and 4-wheeler riding. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carolyn E. (Broadwater) Sanders; seven children, Judy Sanders Wiles and fiance Peter Hough, Russ Sanders and wife Deb, Mike Sanders and wife Sue, Brenda Sanders Casteel and husband Ralph, all of Terra Alta, WV, Regina Sanders Burns and husband James of Oakland, Dewey Sanders, Jr. and wife Missy of Eustis, FL and Bill Braithwaite and wife Rita of Elk Garden, WV; twenty-nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; three brothers, Russell Sanders and Jerry Sanders, both of Terra Alta, WV and Jim Sanders of Newell, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Sanders. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Thursday, June 23rd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, June 24th at 10 AM with Pastor Gary Clem officiating. Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
