Dennis Meyers

Dennis Allen Meyers, 76, of Oakland, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on September 12, 1940 in Oakland, he was the son of the late Samuel Harrison and Belvia Marie (Hinebaugh) Meyers. Dennis was a graduate of Southern High School, class of 1959. He retired from Mettiki Coal Company after 20 years of service mining underground and later working at the warehouse. Dennis was a member of Crellin United Brethren Church. He loved being outdoors where his hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing golf and cutting wood. He treasured all of the good times spent at the cabin, his beach and hunting trips and most of all, babysitting his grandchildren. Dennis is survived by his bride of 53 years, Barbara Ellen (Glotfelty) Meyers; two daughters, Kellie Zbignewich and husband Edward of Oakland and Rebecca Pyles and husband Joseph of Cranesville; grandchildren, Ryann Gibson and husband Russell of Terra Alta, Steven Friend of Oakland, Allison Friend and Madison Pyles of Morgantown and Morgan Pyles of Cranesville; a great granddaughter, Ella Reese Gibson; and a brother Jerry Meyers and wife Carolyn of Oakland; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends too many to mention. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Samuel Meyers, Jr., Dana Bland, Henrietta Wilt, Betty Feerrar and Birdy June Meyers; and a son-in-law, Bryan Friend. Friends will be received at the C & S FREDLOCK FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Crellin United Brethren Church, 65 Otterbein St., Crellin on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 11AM with Pastor Ed Calhoun, Jr. officiating. An hour of visitation will be held at the church prior to the funeral service. Interment will immediately follow in Garrett County Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Crellin United Brethren Church, 65 Otterbein St., Crellin, MD 21550 or to the Southern Garrett County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 378, Oakland, MD 21550.
