Dempsey Nelson

Dempsey O. Nelson, 92, of Kitzmiller went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital. Born on October 13, 1921 in Wallman, MD, he was the son of late Otha and Virgie May (Tasker) Nelson. He was veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II and had retired from Southwest Steel and Charles Blue Stone in Elizabeth, PA. Prior to serving in the Army, he had served in the Civilian Conservation Corp and later became a lifetime member of the VFW in McCoole, MD. After retirement, he became a faithful member of the Full Gospel Church. Dempsey enjoyed hunting with his family and cutting fire wood. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Sweitzer) (Hardesty) Nelson; stepson, Joseph Hardesty and wife Julie; step grandson, J.D. Hardesty; one sister, Luvona Wilt; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, of 57 years, Zelma (Stewart) Nelson; two brothers, James Nelson and Leroy "Dubbs" Nelson; and five sisters, Daisy Shaffer, Helen Sweitzer, Loretta Stark, Carldine Kalar and Colleen Stewart. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 710 Church St., Kitzmiller on Friday, June 13th from 5 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, June 14th at 11 AM with Rev. George A. Tichinel and Rev. Virginia Tichinel officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Full Gospel Church, PO Box 504, Rail Road, Kitzmiller, MD 21538.
