Oakland

Debra Ann ”Deb” Taylor, a life-time resident of Garrett County, died unexpectedly on December 17, 2018 at age 64.  Born to David William Taylor and Ellen Ann (Rose) Taylor of Friendsville, Deb’s parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her siblings: Geri Baumann and husband Terry, Swanton, David W. Taylor, Jr., Steven C. Taylor, both of Friendsville and Lori E. Malcolm and husband Eric of Cuba, MO. In addition, she leaves behind her best friends, Sue Zimmerman and Ellie May.  Deb’s life was blessed with the laughter of children with her niece, Holly R. Hardesty husband Cody, Oakland and nephews, Steven M. Taylor and wife Hannah of Hampton, VA and Nixon T. Malcolm of Boulder, CO; great niece, Carley Hardesty and great nephew, Cash Hardesty.  Known to many as Deb, her smile was contagious and her kindness unforgettable. She supported her community as a participant in Relay For Life and Cindy’s Fund. She was also a long-standing member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 67 of Oakland.  She was a 1972 graduate of Northern High School where she was a member of the marching band and played the saxophone.  Her work career began at Bausch and Lomb where she spent over two decades manufacturing Ray Ban Sunglasses. From there, she spent time at the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office as a correctional officer. With a spirit for change, Deb joined the team at Naylor’s Hardware where the town of Oakland got to know Deb. She later joined the staff at Garrett Industrial Supply, where she was currently employed.  With an affinity for sports, Deb was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and WV Mountaineers. As a sports enthusiast, she spent countless hours bowling with friends, playing softball, and golfing on local Garrett County courses. As a daughter of adventure, Deb enjoyed riding her motorcycle and spending time at her “happy place” at Big Bear Lake. She will be missed and remembered for her kindness, generosity, and quick-witted sense of humor.  Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2ndSt., Oakland on Thursday, December 20 from 3-7 PM.  A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, December 21 at 2 PM with Pastor Carl Fike officiating.  Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Cindy’s Fund, P.O.
