David Riley

David Craig Riley, 64, of Oakland died on Monday, April 17, 2017, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA. Born on October 30, 1952, in Oakland, he was the son of the late Elbert and Katherine (Steyer) Riley. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served during the Vietnam War. He was a machinist by trade having retired after 41 years of service from Dominion Generation, formerly Vepco. Craig was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Mtn. Lake Park and also a life-long member of the NRA, Safari Club International and the American Legion Post #31 in Oakland. He was an outdoorsman, avid hunter and, being well-traveled, hunted all over the United States as well as Africa and a variety of other countries. He was an avid reader and had a profound interest and knowledge of rifles and reloading. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Linda C. (Shank) Riley; a son, Scott Riley of Ohio; two step-children, Mark Younkin of Altavista, VA and Greta Taylor and husband Steve of Oakland; grandchildren, Mariah Riley, Keeton Taylor and Kaden Taylor; a brother, Dr. Roger Riley and wife Carol of Mechanicsville, VA; and two nieces, Katherine Keely and Lisa Timmerman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Erik Riley and the mother of his son, Roxanne Rinker. According to his wishes, Craig was an organ donor whose kidneys went on to help save the life of another and he was cremated. A memorial service, with military honors, will be held on Saturday, May 6th at 1 PM in the Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Duckworth and Pastor Regina Beard officiating. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service. Honors will be according by the United States Marine Corp and the combined honor guard of the American Legion Post #31 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675 or the Safari Club International by contacting the SCI Foundation office at 520-620-1220, ext. 322.
