David Ogden

David L. Ogden, 83, of Oakland and Laurel, MD, went home to his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on December 21, 1940, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Rev. Albert L. and Mary (Stine) Ogden. Dave undertook a wide variety of vocations during his lifetime including paper route delivery, operation of a Shell gas station, and working for the Kelly-Springfield tire company in Cumberland, MD. While working at the Kelly, Dave sustained a back injury forcing him to take early retirement. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland as a computer programmer. While attending school at U of MD, he worked with the K-9 unit in Greenbelt, MD where his nickname was "Tank". After earning his degree he worked as a computer programmer, he had security clearance to work with various agencies such as the NSA and NASA. He was a contracted employee with a range of companies including Computer Sciences Corporation, Elxsi, and Litton Industries. He also sold Amway products, sold Singer sewing machines, had a sealing and striping business, was a seasonal post office employee, worked for Radio Shack, and was a long-haul trucker for JB Hunt. Most recently, he had been a bus driver for special needs children, ages 3 to 21, for Howard County Public Schools. Even while working, Dave served in many volunteer roles with various churches including worship leader, choir director, youth choir director, band leader, nursing home ministry leader, Sunday School Superintendent, Advisory Board member, head of construction/renovations, and snow removal. Essentially, anything he could do to help advance the Kingdom of God, he was willing to do. He was most known for and will be remembered for his great love for his Lord, his compassion and willingness to do for others, his love of gospel music and gospel singing, and being a car enthusiast. His favorite colors were Grabber Yellow on his Boss 429 Mustang or Torch Red on his 50th Anniversary Corvette. His favorite scripture verses were John 14:1-3 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

Dave is survived by his wife of 24 years, Audrey Ogden; son, Lynn Ogden and wife Lisa; daughter, Tanya VanMeter and husband Michael; stepdaughter, Sharon Bowser; stepson, Allen Bowser; five grandchildren, David, Tasha, Joshua, Matthew and Destiny; ten great grandchildren; and his sister, Joyce Zimmerly. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Ogden, Jr., and sister, Bernice Clark. The family will receive friends at the Lakeside Assembly of God, 18012 Garrett Hwy, Oakland, MD on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 2 to 3 PM with a funeral service immediately following with Pastor Steve Schuessler officiating. Interment will be on Monday, March 4, 2024, in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dave's family to assist with expenses c/o Sharon Bowser, 9860 Lyon Ave., Laurel, MD 20723.
