Darrell Lee Armstrong, 76, of Kitzmiller died on Sunday, July 24, 2016, at his home. Born on March 3, 1940 in Vindex, he was the son of the late Fred and Emma Pearl (Stewart) Armstrong. He was retired from the United States Army. During his years of service, Darrell served spent five and a half years in Vietnam during which time he was the recipient of two Purple Heart medals. He was a member of the Hi-Way Assembly of God. In addition to spending time with his family, Darrell enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom picking, gardening and gospel karaoke. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Gail L. (Taylor) Armstrong; children, Jimmy Armstrong, Sandy Browning, Richard Armstrong, Becky Williams, Lisa Stewart, Kimberly Kemphfer, Debra Armstrong and Davey Armstrong; ten stepchildren; thirty-nine grandchildren including Melanie, Ashley and Amber Paugh; thirty-three great grandchildren; brothers, Harold Armstrong, Bob Armstrong, Henry Armstrong and Tom Armstrong; sisters, Louise Hardesty, Darlene Armstrong, Mary Harper and Jane Walsh; and a number of nieces and nephews. He had many friends and a special friendship with Mickey Kempher, Dottie and Donnie Moreland, Roger Welch, Tom and Jean Braithwaite, Tom and Debbie Gank, Toni Stonestreet, Don Damron, Clarence Armstrong and many more. He also had a special place in his heart for his nephew, Bob, of Sumter, SC. Friends will be received at the Hi-Way Assembly of God, 3634 Kitzmiller Rd., Kitzmiller on Wednesday, July 27th from 10 AM to 12 PM after which time a funeral service, with military honors, will be held with Pastor Joe Tichinel and Pastor Virginia Tichinel officiating.
