Daniel Edward Callis, 69 of Oakland, MD died Monday February 14, 2011 in the Garrett Co. Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 20, 1941 in Cumberland, MD, Dan was the son of
Frances L. (Dowling) Callis and the late Charles Daniel Callis. Also preceding him was a sister, Mary Lee (Callis) Metz.
Daniel retired from Verizon communications and was a Viet Nam veteran. He was a life member of the Deer Park VFW and the Procter-Kildow American Legion. He loved to go spelunking (caving) gold prospecting, was an avid fisherman and hunter, played acoustic guitar, and attended Bluegrass festivals and was a wood carver.
He is survived by his wife Beverly E. (White) Callis, sisters, Carolyn Ann Callis Metz and husband Lewis, Barbara Sue Metz and husband Doug, Nancy Goss and a brother Steve Callis and Wife Amy all of Cumberland, MD. There are several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home P.A. 21 N. 2nd St. Oakland on Wed Feb. 16, 2011 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 17, 2011 at 11:00 in the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Kitzmiller officiating. Interment will be in the White Church cemetery.
Combined Military services will be accorded at graveside.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Garrett Co Emergency room fund or the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad.
