Daley Uphold, Sr

April 21, 1934 — September 4, 2016

Daley E. Uphold, Sr., 82, of Oakland, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 4, 2016. Born on April 21, 1934 in Friendsville, MD, Daley is the son of the late Lawrence and Letta (Uphold) Uphold. He attended Oakland High School. Daley proudly served his country in the United States National Guard. He retired after 46 years of coal mining for Island Creek Coal Company and then Consol Energy where he worked at the coal cleaning plant and water treatment facility. Daley attended Bayard Church of God and was a member of the Mt. Top Hunting Club and American Legion Post #189 in Barton, MD. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing and camping. He had many fond memories of playing horseshoes and cards with his family and hanging out in the garage with his friends. Daley is survived by his loving bride of 62 years, Patricia A. (Layman) Uphold; three children, Helen K. Neel and husband Ruff of Oakland, Nancy Kitzmiller and husband Edwin of Waller, TX and Daley E. "Butch" Uphold, Jr. of Oakland; grandchildren, Marshall and Amanda Neel, J.R. and Shari Kitzmiller, Crystal and Brad Collins, Sarah Uphold and fiance Kyle Snow, Adam and Tiffany Kitzmiller; great grandchildren, Tristen, Tori and Trenton Neel, Michaela, Hunter and Courtney Kitzmiller, Kelsey and Brihanna Collins and Sasha Uphold; siblings, Shirley "Sis" Brown and husband Dale and Edgar G. "Shorty" Uphold of Oakland; special friends, Frank Shillingburg and Larry "Red" Meech. In addition to his parents, Daley was preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie Uphold and Roger Lee "To Jo" Uphold. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Bayard Church of God with Pastor Phillip Marcum officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Margaret A. Kaiser, the hospital staff at Garrett Regional Medical Center, Rachel Friend-Lantz and her staff at Garrett Medical Group, Garrett Medical Transport and to Pastor Phillip Marcum for the wonderful care and support that was shown to Daley through out his illness. Memorial contributions may be directed to the WVU Cancer Institute at Garrett Regional Medical Center 251 N 4th St., Oakland, MD 21550.
