Claude "Tom" Edward Persinger, 90, of Oakland, passed away on February 20, 2025, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on July 12, 1934, in Gilmer Co., WV, he was the son of the late Gordon and Carrie Persinger.
After his service in the National Guard, Tom started his career at the Weston State Hospital and as a truck driver for fifteen years, followed by working for Mettiki Coal for over ten years as a guard and working in the warehouse. His favorite endeavor was working for Irvings Upholstery for over 20 years; owning and operating it from 2009 until 2022. Tom loved going to his church, Calvary Tabernacle of Oakland.
He is survived by his children, Etta Sterling, Jerry Persinger, and Jim Persinger; grandchildren, Misty, Tonya, Josh, Lori, Claudia, Mary, George, Maggie, Michele, Jimmy, and Brian; great grandchildren, Dustin, Harmony, Scarlet, Jensen, Jill, Miriam and a host of other family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary (Freeman) Kelly, the mother of his sons; second wife, Carolyn (Zehm) Persinger; sons, Charles and Dana Persinger; son by choice, Christopher Sterling; grandchildren, Ashley, Craig, Jacob, and Nathan; and great grandchild, Allie.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 11 AM to 1 PM, at the Calvary Tabernacle of Oakland. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM in the church with Bishop Pascal Crites and Pastor Elijah Crites officiating. Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
