Christopher Scott Sterling, 61, of Oakland, passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2024, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born in Bethesda, MD, he was the son of the late Charles William and Sarah Christine (Dunbar) Sterling.
Chris attended E. Peary High School, he served in the United States Army receiving the rank of Sergeant. After college, he became an LPN, and worked most recently at Hopemont State Hospital and the John D. Goode Recovery Center in Terra Alta, WV. He enjoyed fishing, geocaching, being outdoors, and spending time with his family. He took loving care of his mother and father-in-law, and shared the duty with his wife of loving, nurturing and caring for their grandchildren Harmony and Dustin Burns.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Etta E. (Persinger) Sterling; two brothers, Chuck and wife CeCe of Millsboro, DE, and Craig and wife Mary Ann of Germantown, MD; a daughter from his previous marriage, Amber Sterling; grandchildren, Sierra, Shane and Stormy; nephews, Cam and Caleb; father-in-law, Claude "Tom" Persinger; and his children by choice, Andrew Beshears and wife Patricia Sines, Aaron Beshears and wife Felicia, Claudia and Lori Burns; grandchildren by choice, Dylan, Nicholas, Devon, Ashlyn Havers and significant other Jordan Moats, Matthew and significant other Madison, Drew and significant other Ana, Trinity, Bently, Jensen, Jill, Miriam, Harmony, Dustin and Scarlet; and 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Carolyn C. Persinger, whom he helped care for until her passing.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday June 30, 2024, at 1 PM, at Broadford Park, Pavillion #5, 123 Recreation Lane, Mountain Lakes Park, MD, with Pastor Elijah Crites officiating. (Park admission requires a $5 entry fee per car). The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland, is honored to be serving the Sterling family at this time.
