Charles Edward Varner, 65, of Charleston,WV passed away January 1, 2021 after a long illness.
Charlie will be remembered for his love of music, quick wit and sense of humor.
He could hear a song from the 60’s or 70’s and tell you who sang it, what album it was on and the year it was released.
Charlie was born on December 28,1955 in Davis, WV. He attended school there and later went to Romney’s School for the Deaf and Blind to further his education. Charlie worked for the radio industry and later moved to Charleston. He was hired as the concessionaire through the Randolph - Sheppard program at the State Capitol . He always entertained the employees with his puns as they made their purchase’s.
Charlie will be missed by his church families from Oakwood Baptist, Riverview Presbyterian and St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. Charlie was a devout Christian in a world that was not always kind. He could pray the most beautiful prayer.
Those friends he held dear to his heart were Sylvia and Kathy Hackney, Mumford Campbell, Janis Shaffer and Tim and Barbara Hudson all from the Charleston area.
Charlie is preceded in death by his mother Eva Varner,Step-mother Myrtle Varner and Step-Father Paul Varner. He leaves behind Half-sister Loretta May Godbey of Kenney, Illinois, Half-brother Russell Varner of Springfield Illinois, Half-Sister Betty Dempsy of Mt. Pulaski, Illinois and Half-Sister Pauletta Hamm of Davis, WV.
Charlie will be laid to rest at the Davis Cemetery in Davis, WV on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
There will be a graveside service only. Those planning to attend must wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the local food bank or the Tucker County Animal Shelter in Parsons.
