Charles Shaffer

Charles Thomas "Tom" Shaffer, 80 of Fingerboard Road, Hutton, MD, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital.
Born July 28, 1930 in Crellin, MD and he was the late son of Elmer Morgan and Julie Jane (Lantz) Shaffer. He was also preceded in death by son, Randy Shaffer.
Tom was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked at the Hopemont State Hospital for 32 years, was a hunter, fisherman and a collector of antique bottles. Tom was also a member of the N.R.A.
Surviving are: wife, Helen Mersing Shaffer of 58 years;granddaughter Alayna Shaffer Niner and husband Brent, step grandson Phillip Pepe and wife, Diana; sisters, Shirley Bowman and husband Bill, Bonnie Winters and husband Neil;two great grandchildren Cameryn and Gavin Niner,step great grandchildren, Randall and Forest Pepe,several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland, MD, Saturday, October 23, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel, Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Barbara Rexrode officiating.
Interment will be at the Aurora Cemetery.
