Charles Edward Moran, Sr., 92, of Deep Creek Lake, passed away peacefully at high noon on November 26, 2014. Born on July 11, 1922 in Westernport, Maryland , he was the son of the late Edward S. and Sarah J. (Wilkinson) Moran. He was a Partner in Moran Coal Company of Westernport, Maryland. Charlie was known for his adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors. He mentored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren through farming, gardening, boating, horseback riding, hunting, snow skiing, and snowmobiling. He was best known for his story telling and love of life. Charlie built the first "float boat" on Deep Creek Lake and was often the first person to "test" the frozen Lake ice on his snowmobile. Charlie's family and numerous friends were blessed with having him in their lives. He was a good man known by many stories that made our lives so abundantly rich. His influence, acts of kindness, and wit will never be forgotten. Charlie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a true Garrett County legend: approachable, memorable, and remarkable. In the words of Charlie, "I'll see you on the ice if it doesn't melt." He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Margaret Rose (Schwinabart) Moran; children, Charles E. Moran, Jr., Thomas L. Moran and wife Korin and Joseph P. Moran and wife Barbara; six granddaughters, Heather Moran Sinclair and husband Robert, Stacia Moran Carr and husband Rodney, Courtney Moran Colaw and husband Robert, Nicole Lyn Moran, Maggie Rose Moran, and Kerri Lyn Moran; seven great grandchildren, Tyler Joseph Colaw, Sara Elizabeth Carr, Evan Robert Colaw, Emma Leigh Carr, Kyla Grace Carr, Belle Moran Sinclair and Robert Charles Sinclair; brothers, William H. Moran and Donald E. Moran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard D. Moran and James P. Moran. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Sunday, November 30th from 4 to 7 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, December 1st at 11 AM with Msgr. Paul Byrnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Dept., PO Box 3152, Deer Park, MD 21550.
