Charles N. Hoffeditz, Ph.D., 85, of McHenry died on Monday, December 30, 2024, at his home. Born on April 17, 1939, in Bellingham, WA, he was the son of the late Robert and Naomi (Peterson) Hoffeditz.
He was a graduate of the University of Washington, Washington State, and had been a visiting scholar at Stanford University. He was a hydrologist for the National Weather Service and received the Silver Medal of Honor from the United States Department of Commerce. He had formerly served as President of the Garrett County Forestry Board and advocated for several years to bring Maryland and DC television stations to Garrett County. Chuck was also a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Deer Park. In addition to spending time with family and friends, he enjoyed skiing, boating, woodworking, and hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Madalyn (McIntire) Hoffeditz; a son, Steve Hoffeditz and wife Corry of Kensington, MD; grandchildren, Luke, Morgan, and Lewis Hoffeditz of Kensington, and Madalyn Hoffeditz of LA; and a brother, Roger Hoffeditz of Seattle, WA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Hoffeditz.
Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 5 to 7 PM. A memorial service will be held in St. John's Episcopal Church, 5234 Maryland Hwy., Deer Park, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 11 AM with Rev. Dr. Chip Lee officiating. Private interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, PO Box 414, Deer Park, MD 21550.
