Charles Hardesty

Charles Henry "Charlie" Hardesty, 84, of Swanton, passed away on October 21, 2024, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on November 20, 1939, in Oakland, he was the son of the late Gus Henry and Jane Katherine Hardesty Howell and Elmer.

Charlie was a graduate of Southern High School. He worked as a pipefitter for over 17 years at Westvaco Paper Mill. He also owned and operated Charlie's Home Bargain Center for over 35 years. He enjoyed tracing his genealogy back to Germany and traveling, as he visited 49 of the 50 United States. After retirement and when cold weather would set in Garrett County, you could find him enjoying the Florida sunshine or cruising the Carribean. He truly cherished the time spent with his family and extended family.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Ellenor (Paugh) Hardesty; four children, Sheila Hardesty of Swanton, Charles Hardesty of Swanton, Rebecca Hardesty of Terra Alta, and Ronald Hardesty and wife Beverley of Swanton; five grandchildren, Sara, Adam, Rachel and Justin, C.J., and Melissa and Seth; five great grandchildren, T.J., Kierra, Laila, Trent, and Rowen; two brothers, Tom Hardesty and wife Janet, Ronald Sisler and wife Bonnie; an aunt, Mabel McCrobie; a sister in law, Fern Lee; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Henry Hardesty; a daughter in law, Sally Jane Hardesty, a sister, Nancy Doerr; and a sister in law, Linda Sisler.

Friends will be received on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 2 to 4 PM at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland. A funeral service will be held at 4 PM in the funeral home with Pastor Robert Lee officiating. Immediately following the funeral, friends are welcomed to the Swanton Community Center for a meal and celebrating Charlie's life.
