Charles Michael "Mick" Filsinger, 81, Deer Park, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family and his faithful dog, Cindy.
He was the son of the late Philip and Mary Filsinger. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Filsinger and Mary Reardon. He was the 8th of ten children.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary (Haines) Filsinger.
Also surviving is his son, Charles Michael "Mike" Filsinger and wife, Lona of Swanton; three daughters, Mary Ann Butler and husand, Sam, Susan D. Virts and husband Don of Oakland, and Nancy L. Filsinger and husband, Randy Kitzmiller of Deer Park.
Surviving are three brothers, Philip "Babe" Filsinger and wife, Kate of Oakland, Robert Filsinger and John Filsinger, both of Deer Park, and four sisters, Francis Goetten of Naples, FL, Ruth Filsinger of Falls Church, VA, Pat Filsinger and Barbara Pritts both of Deer Park.
He is survived by three granddaughters, Stephanie Filsinger of Oakland, Lorrie Filsinger-Miller and husband Jason, and Carrie Filsinger-Matlick and husband Matthew of Swanton; and grandson Thomas D. Sharpless and wife Amy of Terra Alta.
He was affectionately known as "Pappy Mick" by his 4 great-grandsons, Jarrett Michael, Jett Mason and Jaxxton Mick Miller of Swanton, and Maxxwel Sharpless of Terra Alta.
In his earlier years, Mick worked for the B&O Railroad, but he spent most of his life and retired from his trucking business. During his retirement, he became an avid golfer. He also enjoyed working in his garage, traveling out west to hunt, listening to blue grass/country music and most recently his interest in guitars. He was a member of the Oakland Elks.
Friends and family will be received at David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland, MD on Saturday, January 23rd from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24th at 2:00 p.m. at the Deer Park United Methodist Church, Deer Park, MD.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his memory to Hospice of Garrett County or the Deer Park Fire Department.
At Mick's request, his body was donated to the West Virginia University Gift Registry.
