Charles Filsinger

Charles Michael "Mike" Filsinger, Jr., 66, of Swanton died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV with his family at his side. Mike was born on April 17, 1950 in Cumberland, MD the son of the late Charles Michael "Mick" and Rosemary (Haines) Filsinger. He was a member of the Deer Park United Methodist Church. He was a 1968 graduate of Southern High School. Mike was a self-employed truck driver prior to becoming legally blind in 1981 due to juvenile diabetes. He was a lifetime member of the Oakland Elk's Lodge #2481 and the Vice President of the Swanton Community Association. Throughout his life, he endured many health issues and underwent many operations, including a kidney transplant in 1984, which his sister Sue was the donor and a pancreas transplant in 1996. His greatest joy in life was when he became the proud owner and operator of "Pappy's Daycare" in 2003. He was affectionately known as "Pappy Mike" by his loving grandchildren. The family would like to thank all of the doctors, his siblings and the staff of the dialysis center for taking such good care of him. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lona (Mullenax) Filsinger of Swanton; three daughters, Stephanie Filsinger and fiance Thomas George of Oakland, Lorrie Filsinger-Miller and husband Jason of Swanton, Carrie Matlick and husband Matthew of Swanton; grandchildren, Jarrett Michael, Jett Mason, Jaxxton Mick and Jaggar Mack Miller, Mylan Kennedy and Mia Finley Matlick; three sisters, Mary Ann Butler and husband Sam of Oakland, Susan D. Virts and husband Don of Oakland and Nancy L. Filsinger of Deer Park; father and mother-in-law, Roy and Rose Mullenax of Horse Shoe Run, WV; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the C & S FREDLOCK FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Friday, May 20th from 4 to 7 PM and Saturday, May 21st from 10 to 11 AM at which time a funeral service will be held in the funeral home with Pastor Barbara Rexroad and Rev. John Reardon officiating. Interment will follow in the Deer Park Cemetery.
