Charles Evans

Charles Patrick (Chip) Evans, Jr. 86 of Oakland, MD, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at his residence.

Born March 25, 1925 in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late Charles P. Evans, Sr. and Willa Lucretia (Williams) Evans. He was also preceded in death by daughters Alison Christine Evans and Jennifer Ann Evans.

Chip is survived by his wife Mary K. (Schwartz) Evans, two daughters, Rebecca McClive, Fort Collins, Co. and Susan Perando, Oakland and one son Joesph Evans, Suffolk, VA. Seven grandchildren and four great children.

Chip enlisted in the US Coast Guard 3 June 1942 and served on Coast Guard cutters doing anti-submarine warfare in the Atlantic 1942 to 1945. He also served in the Army manning at detachment on board freight and supply ships in the Southwest Pacific, New Guinea and the Philippines from 1944 to 1945. He was discharged June 1946 as a Gunners Mate 2nd Class. Chip then attended art school and then in 1947 married Mary K. Schwartz of Gormania, Wv. He again joined the US Navy and served on board the USS Grand Canyon and made a tour in the Mediterranean after which he went to submarine school and served nine years on US Submarines.

In the 1970's he joined the Ali Ghan Shrine Bagpipe Unit. He and the late Judge, Fred Thayer formed the Garrett Highlands Pipes & Drums. He also received has pilot license in 1970 and was well known as an artist.

Mr. Evans will be cremated with memorial services at a later date.
