Charles Burrell

Charles "Charlie" Wayne Burrell, 83, of Aurora, was called home to the LORD on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Oakland Nursing & Rehab Center of Oakland, MD. Charles was born July 18, 1928 in Ridgeley, WV. the son of the late Kepton Brite and Irma Gertrude (Hart) Burrell.
In his early years, Charlie served in the Navy, from 1945-1952, retiring at rank of M.E.W. 1st Class with a personal letter of honor from Admiral Arleigh Burke, Chief of Naval Operations. Locally, he was a carpenter by trade and known by many as a lay minister over the years serving as interim pastor of Kitzmiller Assembly of God, Maple Grove Assembly of God and Glad Tidings Assembly of God, to name a few. Charlie also served as deacon, youth leader, in nursing home ministry; he was president and vice president for many years of Full Gospel Businessman's Ministerial Association. He loved to serve the Lord. We will miss him here but know he is happy there.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia D. (Dodie) Burrell of Aurora, WV; two daughters, Beverly Bucknor of MD and Barbara Schrager and husband Seth of VA; one son, Bruce (Bud) and wife Sheri of Aurora; six grandchildren, Chrissa Lahman of Oakland, Harold and Matthew Schrager of Virginia, Corey and Hannah Burrell of Aurora, and Wendi Rodehaver of Terra Alta; four great grandchildren; one brother, Andrew Burrell and wife Anna of Oakland; three sisters, Marty Lazarti and husband Luis, Mary Marvin and Joey Gross, all of Virginia; also many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Miller and a brother, Eugene Burrell.
Friends will be received on Thursday, October 20 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. 2nd St., Oakland, MD. The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Friday, October 21 at Maple Grove Assembly Of God, 1458 Accident Road, Eglon, WV with Pastor Shaun Roberts officiating.
