Charles Burgess

Charles Howard Burgess, Sr., 82, of Kitzmiller, MD died on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Garrett Memorial Hospital in Oakland, MD.

Born on June 13, 1929 in Hartmansville, WV, he was the son of the late Charles Burton and Sarah (Matthews) Burgess.

In his early years, he worked as a fireman but most of his working years were spent as a coal miner. Charles loved spending his time in the great outdoors and hunting. He attended the Hi-Way Assembly of God Church in Kitzmiller.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mary "Pat" (Griggs) Burgess; five children, Charles Howard Burgess, Jr. and wife Brenda, Richard Alvin Burgess and wife Sherry, Eleanor Ruth Woods and husband Clifton, Helen Faye Smith and husband Melvin, and Brandi Michele Anderson and husband Wylie; daughter -in-law, Patti Burgess; grandchildren, Lori Renee Smith and husband Steve, Jesse Woods and Tim Carney, Jason Burgess and wife Amy, Mandy Courson and husband Matthew, Ricki Jo Walker and husband Walter, Elias Dale, Brayan Anderson, Brennen Anderson, Ellen Dewitt and husband Kurt, Chuck Burgess and Sara Pretrey, Heather Berg and husband Randall, Richelle Evans and husband Michael, Brian Smith, Melvin Smith, Jr. and wife Kim; one brother, Edward Eugene Burgess and wife Nelda; 25 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Allen Burgess.

Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 710 Church St., Kitzmiller on Friday, April 6th from 4 to 8 PM. A bereavement dinner will be held at the Hi-Way Assembly of God Church, Kitzmiller at noon on Friday, prior to visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hi-Way Assembly of God Church or the Kitzmiller Assembly of God Church.
