Charles "Doug" Baker, 69, of Oakland, passed away peacefully at his home on February 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 27, 1955, in Oakland, he was the son of the late Clayton Baker and Ruby (Paugh) Baker, who survives him.
Doug was a dedicated and hard-working mechanic, spending decades working as a heavy equipment mechanic for Buffalo Coal and Keystone Lime. He had a deep passion for fishing, camping, and taking on various projects, and he cherished life on his farm. Doug's love for dancing led him to his wife, Lisa, and their shared love story was built on simple but meaningful gestures, like bringing her hand-picked wildflowers and leaving her love notes. He instilled a strong work ethic in his family and showed them what it truly means to love deeply. Above all, Doug was a phenomenal father, grandfather, and great-grandfather-his children and grandchildren meant the world to him, even when they got a little too creative with spray paint on his freshly painted car. A true cowboy at heart, Doug was never afraid to roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty to take care of his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa (Heimberg) Baker; children, Chad Baker and wife Kerri of Oakland, Gretchen Baker and wife Alexandra of Aurora, and Robert Chandler of LaVale; grandchildren, Tristan Baker, Bryson Baker, Austin Baker, Brooklyn Baker, Cruz Baker, Cade Baker, Jackson Baker, Sean Baker, and Haze Chandler; great-grandchildren, Branson Baker and Averlee Baker; and siblings, Ruby Lou King, Clayton Baker, Linda Lewis, Roy Baker, Rob Baker, Pam Ragione, and Debra Ann Pike.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patty Mullenax.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
